E-Space® Systems

Background

What has evolved into E-Space began by my searching the market for a method that, for my own home, would permit my building a space frame from which I could attach a curtain wall enclosure.  My construction experience has been in high-rise office buildings and I have always been amazed that houses are typically built using wasteful methods that have been obsolete for generations.

After looking high and low, I discovered that Simpson Strong-Tie, one of the major suppliers of metal joist connectors for stick built homes, had invented a key component for such a space frame.  I contacted them and they enthusiastically embraced my concept.  The technical term for their device is a Moment Frame called their “Strong Frame”.  It was designed to be inserted into the wall of a stick framed building where earthquakes and/or strong winds demand maximum strength.  They had not thought of using the frame for an entire structure.

The next step was to find a light weight steel beam to connect the moment frames and an Australian company, LiteSteel Technologies has just introduced into the American market their LiteSteel Beam and it is the perfect product for this purpose.

To this steel frame, a number of insulated panels may be attached in a matter of hours, not days or months as is the case with traditional stick framing.  So, we have a high rise construction method which is perfect for quickly building energy efficient homes of Engineered Components that are totally sustainable.

My search for “Green Materials” began a long time ago.  For years, I have been composting, planting natural plants that don’t need watering, etc.   As one energy saving device, I added a layer of rigid foam on the roof of our home in Los Angeles so that we would not have to turn on our air conditioner (it worked wonderfully well for that purpose and airplane noise disappeared).

Having spent a number of years manufacturing architecturally oriented products, I have friends in the architectural community and I shared my home remodeling idea with a few.   See
Barry Rosengrant experience.

Several pointed out that my own criteria was little different from a large number of environmentally oriented folks who want to live in an ecologically sound home which does not compromise one’s standard of living.  Their feedback encouraged me to offer to others the Engineered Component package that I had assembled for my own use.

The result is
E-Space Systems (short for Ecological Systems) and the response is most gratifying.  If you are exploring ways to live green, please give us a call and we will do our best to share the considerable research we have done.  We would love to work with your architect or we will recommend a design firm that is the Greenest we have found.

Or, we would love to provide a Mini Unit for your back yard.
